Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about renting a roll-off dumpster in the Pasadena and Altadena area — pricing, permits, sizes, and what actually fits in the box.

Below are the questions we hear most from homeowners and contractors across Pasadena, Altadena, and the surrounding San Gabriel Valley cities we serve. If you don't see your answer here, call us directly at (626) 740-2880 and we'll walk you through it.

Pricing & Booking

How do I get a price for my dumpster rental?
Call (626) 740-2880 and tell us the size you need, your address, and how long you expect to need the container. We'll quote you a straightforward flat rate over the phone.
Is the price you quote the price I pay?
Yes. The flat rate we quote is based on your size, location, and rental period, and it's the number that shows up on your invoice — no hidden fees added after the box is dropped.
Why don't you post prices online?
Because an honest price depends on your specific project — size, weight, material type, location, and how long you need the container all factor in. A generic number posted online either lowballs your job or pads it for someone else's. A quick call gets you an accurate flat rate instead of a guess.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Many customers book a day or two ahead, but if you call in the morning we can often deliver the same day depending on the route and your location — see our same-day dumpster rental service.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept standard payment methods over the phone or at time of service. Ask our team about specifics when you call to book.
Do you charge extra if I go over the rental period?
Extended rental periods are billed at a daily rate beyond the included time. We'll tell you your included period and the extension rate when you book, so there's no surprise later.
Do you charge extra for overweight loads?
Each size comes with a weight allowance. If your debris — especially heavy material like concrete, dirt, or shingles — pushes past that allowance, an overage fee applies. We'll walk you through the right size to avoid this before you book — see our size guide for reference.
What actually drives the cost of a dumpster rental?
Size, rental length, weight allowance, and what's going in the box are the main factors. Our dumpster rental cost guide breaks each one down in plain language.

Permits & Placement

Do I need a permit to have a dumpster on my own property?
No. Placement entirely on private property — your driveway, yard, or a lot — is unregulated everywhere in our service area. No permit is required for private property placement.
When do I need a permit for a dumpster in the City of Pasadena?
Any time the container needs to sit in a public street or right-of-way rather than on private property, it falls under the City of Pasadena's Department of Public Works, using a Storage Container Application processed through the City's mypermits online system.
How much does a Pasadena street placement permit cost?
No specific fee is published for the Storage Container Application, so we can't quote a number here — call the City's Public Works department directly, or call us and we'll help you confirm current requirements before you book.
What's different about a dumpster permit in Altadena?
Altadena is unincorporated Los Angeles County, not its own city, so street placement there runs through LA County Public Works' Drop Box (Roll-Off Bin) Permit, processed through the County's EPIC-LA system — a completely separate process from the City of Pasadena's. Only LA-County-approved vendors can place a bin in the right-of-way in Altadena.
Is your yard address in Pasadena or Altadena?
Altadena. Our yard sits at 2315 Fair Oaks Ave, Altadena, CA 91001, just over the line from Pasadena — we market as a Pasadena-area company because that's the region we work in, but we're upfront that the physical address is Altadena.
What about the other cities you serve, like Arcadia or Glendale?
South Pasadena, San Marino, Sierra Madre, La Cañada Flintridge, Arcadia, Monrovia, Glendale, and Temple City each handle street placement through their own city government's own separate process. We never assume Pasadena's or LA County's process carries over to any of them.
Does LA County's process apply in any of the incorporated cities you serve?
No. LA County Public Works only has right-of-way authority in unincorporated areas like Altadena. Every incorporated city we serve — Pasadena included — handles its own permitting independently.
Do I need to sort out the permit myself, or do you help?
We help. We'll tell you which office applies to your address — the City of Pasadena's Public Works department, LA County's EPIC-LA system, or another city's own office — before we schedule delivery, so nothing gets held up.

Sizes & What Fits

What dumpster sizes do you offer?
We offer 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40 yard roll-off dumpsters. See our full size guide for details on each.
What size do most homeowners rent?
The 20 yard is our most requested size — it typically handles whole-house cleanouts, larger remodels, and roofing jobs without going oversized. See our 20 yard page for details.
What size do I need for a small cleanout or garage purge?
A 10 or 15 yard usually covers a small cleanout, a garage purge, or a single-room remodel — see our 10 yard and 15 yard pages for details.
What size do I need for a whole-house project or new construction?
A 30 or 40 yard is typically the right call for whole-house renovations, commercial cleanouts, or new-construction debris — see our 30 yard and 40 yard pages for details.
How much does weight matter compared to size?
As much or more. Every size comes with a weight allowance, and dense debris like concrete, dirt, or shingles can hit that limit well before the box looks full. Our size guide walks through weight alongside volume for each size.
I'm not sure which size I need — can you help?
Yes, this is what we do all day. Call (626) 740-2880 with a rough description of the job and we'll recommend a size based on what similar projects across the San Gabriel Valley have needed.
Can I get a bigger size delivered if my project grows?
Yes — call us and we'll swap you up to a larger size, or in some cases add a second container, depending on the job.

Delivery & Scheduling

How much space does the truck need to deliver?
Our roll-off trucks generally need a clear, straight path to the drop spot and enough overhead clearance for the box to be raised and set down. Tell us about tight spots or low overhangs when you book so we can plan accordingly.
Can you deliver to a tight driveway?
Yes, we handle tight driveways and narrow lots regularly, from older Altadena and South Pasadena streets to wider properties out in Arcadia and La Cañada Flintridge. Describe the access when you call and we'll tell you honestly what will work.
Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?
Not necessarily, as long as we have clear instructions on where to place the container and access to that spot. Many customers coordinate delivery without being on-site.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
We place boards under the rails when needed to protect asphalt, concrete, and gravel surfaces — this is a standard part of every delivery, not just something we do on request — and our drivers place the container carefully to minimize any impact on your property.
How do you handle delivery during wildfire season?
Wildfire and Santa Ana wind season, roughly September through December, is the real scheduling factor we plan around. We build extra flexibility into that stretch every year, and we recommend booking a little further ahead if red-flag conditions are in the forecast for your area.
Do you deliver to properties affected by the Eaton Fire rebuild?
Yes — we regularly deliver to rebuild-phase lots in Altadena for new-construction debris, and to nearby properties handling general renovation or property cleanup. We don't handle fire or ash debris removal from destroyed structures itself; that's hazardous-materials work managed by official government cleanup programs, not a private hauler.
Can you deliver the same day I call?
Often, yes, especially for calls placed early in the day, depending on the route and your location. Call (626) 740-2880 and we'll tell you what's realistic — see our same-day dumpster rental page.
Do you serve areas outside Pasadena itself?
Yes — we're based in Altadena and regularly deliver across Pasadena, South Pasadena, San Marino, Sierra Madre, La Cañada Flintridge, Arcadia, Monrovia, Glendale, and Temple City. See our locations page for the full list of towns we serve.

Disposal Rules

Can I put an old TV or computer in the dumpster?
No. California law bans electronics — TVs, computer monitors, computers, printers, and cell phones — from ordinary trash disposal, per CalRecycle's own list of wastes banned from the trash. Route these to a certified e-waste recycler instead. See our what can go in a dumpster guide for details.
Can I put old batteries in the dumpster?
No. California law bans batteries of every type — household AA and AAA cells, button cell, 9-volt, lead-acid, and rechargeable packs from tools, laptops, and e-bikes — from the regular trash and household recycling bins, under the CA Department of Toxic Substances Control's Universal Waste rules. Route these through a certified battery recycler or participating retailer instead.
Can asbestos-containing material go in the dumpster?
No, never, under any circumstances. Asbestos requires specialized handling and disposal by a licensed abatement contractor — it cannot go in a standard roll-off container regardless of location. This comes up more than you'd expect on older-home renovation and demolition jobs across the San Gabriel Valley.
What other items are prohibited?
Fluorescent tubes and LED lights, paint and solvents, motor oil and antifreeze, tires, and compressed gas cylinders like propane tanks generally can't go in a standard roll-off, alongside the electronics and batteries covered above. Ask us if you're unsure about a specific item — see our what can go in a dumpster in California guide for the full list.
Can waste tires go in the dumpster?
No. California funds a tire-recycling fee at the point of sale specifically so tires get routed to a certified tire recycler instead of the regular waste stream — not into a roll-off container.
Can I put yard waste in a regular dumpster?
It depends on the project — branches, brush, and clippings are generally fine, but treated or chemically treated wood, chemicals, and bagged household trash shouldn't be mixed in. See our yard waste service for details.
I'm not sure if an item is allowed — can I just ask?
Absolutely. Call (626) 740-2880 before you load anything questionable and we'll tell you straight whether it can go in the box or needs to go somewhere else.
